We had to register the kids at 5:45 am--which meant we got everyone up at 4:45 in the morning!! They all jumped out of bed, ready for the fishing derby. At 6:00 am, everyone tossed out their first cast.

Emma managed to catch a fish on her VERY FIRST CAST! She caught the first fish of the morning in the whole fishing derby. (And she was easily the most excited kid there that day...) She thinks it is the first fish she ever caught in her life.

After Jon moved her to a new spot, she caught three nice fish really quick. Her fish is still flopping in the water here, as Jon tried to net it.

Jamie was a real pro right from the start. He knew how to cast that line out there. (He really startled his father when he made his first perfect cast. Jeff didn't realize Jamie had been practicing at Lake Chabot with his PooPop.)

After Katie had caught 3 fish, Emma had caught two fish, and Jamie had caught 1 fish, Jamie switched to a different fishing pole. He immediately caught a big prize-winner. He said his fishing pole "felt funny"--then realized he had a big fish on the line.

We put all 7 fish on a stringer. The fishing derby still was only half over (another hour to go), but we went home for a while to get warmed up.
