Snorkeling in Hawaii in 2010
THREADFIN BUTTERFLY FISH: another of the many kinds of butterflyfish we saw. This one looks very much like the next fish, except that this one has diagonal lines, rather than straight up and down lines. Note the thin thread on his dorsal fin, hence the name.

LINED BUTTERFLYFLISH: I actually had to look at my downloaded photos to realize I had fish with up and down lines and others with diagonal lines like the last ones. Very similar.

BULLETHEAD PARROTFISH: We saw a lot of these fish at Kahalu'u Beach. They are simply gorgeous--it's hard to make the pictures do them justice.

ORANGEBAND SURGEONFISH: The orange stripe on these guys looks like someone dabbed some paint on them--always very bright orange.

HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A (also known as the PICASSO TRIGGERFISH): This is the Hawaii state fish--and is pretty commonly found. This one has his fins back far on his body similar to the Black Triggerfish.

PSYCHEDELIC WRASSE: This one is well-named! Very bright colors. It was difficult to photograph, because it simply would not hold still--constantly moving, twisting, chewing at things on the ocean floor.
